THE BOOYAH COOK: DRINKS / CANAPÉS

Fucking OMG I have just had a total time warp weekend starting on Friday where I feel like months have passed since I was last on planet Earth. I really need to behave like this more often – having dinner parties, not answering the phone, shirking responsibilities, making men dress in Babycham pyjamas etc. But now I am back my beauties with a report and recipes from THE FRIDAY THE 13TH DINNER PARTY.

I am a total leisure slut and would rather spend hours watching CSI than anything else. But, to allude to an air of sophistication about me other than being the main Thug Misses that I am, the first thing I set my mind to for dinner was WHAT TO DRINK? In the last two years, thanks to the indoctrination of the Cardinal I am now a “bubbly fun” convert so top of my list for drinks is always Prosecco or Cava with a little splash of something in the bottom. On Friday 13th I offered either Elderflower Cordial, Lingonberry Cordial, Larks Distillery Apple Liqueur or Clementine juice in a champagne glass filled up with £4.80 Cava from Sainbury’s.

Here you can see Pippa Brooks in self portrait looking as though she is about to give the glass a blow job in a very sexual aura kind of way. Credit to a very fine lady.

Then with the booze as an issue out of the way, the second thing in my mind was: HOW DO I START THIS FEAST? Et voila:

This is actually a salad recipe of The Cardinals that I feel a bit of a cheater ripping off and flipping back at her. Out of respect I can’t tell you the recipe other than it is dairy and chilli. Miam!

And here is the other one that I will tell you the recipe for! It is kind of one of those no quantity recipes and good for free-styling.

Hummus is yesterday’s news so welcome Minty Pea and Pecorino

Ingredients
2 big man handfuls or 3 little lady handfuls of fresh peas
1 handful of fresh mint leaves [of either sized hand depending on how much you like mint]
1 handful of grated Pecorino or Parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon of olive oil
Juice from half a lemon
Salt and Pepper
Crackers [something crunchy]

If you have a hand blender, a food processor or a mortar and pestle moosh the peas and mint together til they become like a chunky paste. You could even in desperation put the peas in plastic bag, hold it closed and hit it with a wooden spoon then turn the bag out into a mixing bowl for the next step. Then mix the rest of the stuff in. Taste it. It should be tangy [lemon and cheese], minty [mint] and fresh [peas]. Twirk it til you like the balance. Then I think actually putting it on the biscuit part doesn’t warrant description. Booyah.

COCKTAIL OF CHOICE

Cocktail of Choice, originally uploaded by Lektrogirl.

Well here is another new feature which I hope will become regular on my blog now that my cocktail cabinet is getting full of alcohol rather than just teacups, records and letters I never opened.

So the other night was dinner at The Cardinals. We decided to attempt mixing the cocktail pictured which I first had at Wild Honey on St George Street. I can’t remember what they called it, but I call it the 3C down to the list of ingredients.

3C RECIPE
2/3 lid of Campari
Juice of 1.5 Clementines
Fill the glass with chilled Cava or Prosecco

It is a very fresh taste and not too fruity. Nice for Winter I think could be a goer for all year round with mandarins or whatever is on. Personally I would have been a little heavier handed with the Campari but The Cardinal was calling the shots and I was just on duty as the mixer. We both thought it would be a nice idea to zest the rim of the glass to make the drink more fragrant.

After polishing of a few of these each, we switch to Courvoisier and Prosecco.

The following day I felt like death while I had to race around after my boss who was off to Kenya. Things were better again when I passed out on the sofa at 9pm the following night.

AGONY NEARLY OVER

Shit, so last night at the Tabby Cat Lounge was really fun! On the walk to the venue from different directions, Venom and I both noticed how many really nice bars, pubs and restaurants there are in our area. The Tabby Cat Lounge [the name?!] looks really tiny from the front but actually inside it is massive and split over two giant rooms with a garden.

The Bad Things:
My major criticism was the horrid ‘window’ display they had of all the drinks on a computer print out without the file names removed – so everything was like tabbycat001.jpg, tabbycat002.jpg, tabbycat003.jpg etc etc. However, when I walked into the impressive interior I forgot about it.

A few of my drinks were listed in the menu to be garnished with cherries or mint. It disappointedly me [and I think reasonable to be saddened] that these items were omitted when the drink was served. It only impacted on my inner vibes that likes to have things done properly but did not impact on the drinks.

At another table there were four American girls talking so loud – one about her husband this that and the other, the other about sticking her fingers into a lighting sconce and electrocuting herself etc etc until one of them deservedly spilt a drink all over herself and down the back of the chair she was sitting on – everywhere.

The Good Things:
They serve Miller’s Gin – £2.95!
Short cocktails are £5.95
Tall cocktails are £6.95
Champagne cocktails are £7.95
2oz cocktails are £3.95

My sick drink and Venoms Slippery Nipple.

I had a Cherry Martini, a Louisiana Lush, a Classic Champagne Cocktail, a Tom Collins [with Tanqueray Gin] and some red 2oz drink I can’t remember the name of but it did taste a bit like sick and Venom kept up all the way and the whole bill was £60 [including service]. Which Venom paid!

My favourite drink was the Louisiana Lush that was Vanilla Vodka, Limes and something else.

Venom and I got REALLY PISSED. And were even friendly with one another!

It is of course just a matter of time before we fall out with each other again but we really had a great evening. Hopefully we don’t have another big falling out before Summer time cause there are definitely going to be some good times there.

I did not have such a great morning this morning when the neighbours alarm clock went off at 5.45, then a wood pigeon from the Heath had a rest in my garden cooing to it’s heart’s delight in its throaty calls, then the hot mail man came to bring the rest of my new tea set:

I have settings for 6 people in this set. When will we all have a tea party? Maybe when Mrs Vanderbilt and Covvo are back in town which I am SO LOOKING FORWARD TO!!!

HUNG OVER

Oh god too many night on the razz and I should have got in early today to get cracking on the bank reconciliations waiting for me while the office is quiet cause everyone else is at Portobello. I just found this video though and decided it was worth getting out of bed today cause I might meet a skinny French dude who dances like a spazz that has a GSOH, enjoys going and for dinner and “likes to party”. HAHAHA whenever someone says that I totally crack up now cause Katharine always says it as the ultimate pisstake.

Katharine about to tell a joke for the over 30’s with Wino Winehouse hair for JoJo’s leaving party.

My starter from last night. Spinach [for muscles] Fennel [for whatever] Egg [for protein] and two eyes. I felt a bit like I was eating Kermit the Frog.

Thanks to Philippa’s astute cocktail drinking the night before, I knew to choose an astringent refreshing bubbly light champagne cocktail to set me up for this night of party vibes. Here is the Julie’s version of the French 75. Delicious!

This was Philippa’s cocktail the night before at the Hawksmoor. I could have stripped off and had a bath in it! All those fruits in Philippa’s drink from the Hawksmoor are actually the fruits that didn’t get chosen for the Ribena ad and they all go so depressed they commited suicide.

Fit. Maoris who can get me all juiced up doing the haka.

This is great cause the Tongan team also do their version. Brrrap that.
